Irregular street network
Roads and lanes curve and branch freely across the town, following the slopes instead of a grid. This gives the poster a loose, hand-drawn quality.

关于地图
Koidu Map Poster & Print
Koidu, often called Koidu Town or Koidu-Sefadu, is the main town of Kono District in Sierra Leone's Eastern Province. It sits in hilly country, and its streets follow the terrain instead of a regular plan. They wind between slopes and spread outward along the roads that lead toward other towns in the district, so the outline is loose and uneven.
Koidu is closely associated with diamond mining. The Kono area has long been one of the most important sources of diamonds in West Africa, and mining has shaped the land around the town. The area suffered heavily during the civil war of the 1990s and has been rebuilt since, and the town has grown steadily in the years that followed.
A Koidu map poster draws the town as an organic network of streets and paths, with no strict grid and a clear sense of the ground beneath it. In black and white, the irregular pattern looks almost like a drawing of the landscape itself, an honest portrait of a town that grew with its terrain.

Roads out of town
Several main roads leave Koidu toward other parts of Kono District. On the map they read as long lines connecting the dense centre to the surrounding country.
Hills around the town
The town sits among hills and valleys. The way the streets bend and thin out toward the edges of the poster reflects that uneven ground.

为什么选Koidu
一张有意义的地图
For people from Kono who now live in Freetown or overseas, Koidu holds family, memory and a complicated history. A plain map of its streets is a respectful way to keep it on the wall, without needing to say more.
Change the title and subtitle to include a name or a date, and pick from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 digital download includes 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF files in six sizes.
