Kūt-e ‘Abdollāh lies in Khuzestan province in southwestern Iran, directly south of Ahvaz, the provincial capital. The region is one of the flattest in the country, a wide plain crossed by the Karun River, Iran's largest by volume, and the town's layout follows the river valley and the roads that link it to the city.
From above, the town appears as a network of mostly regular streets, with blocks of low houses laid out in rows and a few broad roads running through them. The Karun passes close by, curving across the plain, and farmland and palm groves appear between the built-up areas and the water.
