Two harbours
The West Harbour and the East Harbour sit on opposite sides of the peninsula. On the map, the town appears to stretch between two stretches of water only a short walk apart.

关于地图
Mariehamn Map Poster & Print
Mariehamn occupies a narrow peninsula in the south of the main Åland island, with water on both sides. The West Harbour takes ferries and larger ships, while the East Harbour is shallower and used by small boats. Between them lies a clean, regular grid of streets. From above, the town looks like a well-ordered plan laid across a thin finger of land.
The town was founded in 1861, when Åland was part of the Russian Empire, and named after Empress Maria Alexandrovna. It is sometimes called the town of a thousand linden trees, a reference to the broad avenues planted through its centre. The largest of these, Esplanadgatan, runs across the peninsula from harbour to harbour and gives the grid its main axis.
A Mariehamn map poster works well because the plan is so legible. Two shorelines frame the town, the grid fills the space between, and wide avenues cut clear lines through it. Ferry piers in the West Harbour add strong shapes at one edge, and the many inlets and islets of the archipelago soften the rest of the frame.

Esplanadgatan
A broad avenue lined with linden trees that crosses the town from one harbour towards the other. It reads as the main spine of the grid.
Planned grid
Mariehamn was laid out as a new town, and its regular blocks show it. Straight streets and right angles give the poster an orderly, almost architectural look.

为什么选Mariehamn
一张有意义的地图
Mariehamn is a place of summer holidays, sailing trips and ferry crossings between Finland and Sweden. Its harbour-to-harbour grid is a simple, handsome map that suits anyone with a cottage, a family link or a sailing memory in Åland.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps in Swedish or with the year of a trip. Then pick from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The Blueprint style suits the town's maritime character well.
