Compact grid
The town centre is laid out in a small grid of regular blocks. On the poster this forms a tight, geometric focus in the middle of the frame.

关于地图
Matões Map Poster & Print
Matões is a municipality in eastern Maranhão, in the transition zone of cerrado savanna and palm-rich land that stretches toward the Parnaíba valley and the Piauí border. The town itself is compact. It has a small grid of streets around a central core, with houses built close to the road on narrow lots, as is common in the interior of Brazil's northeast.
From above, the town's regular blocks stand out against a much larger rural area. Unpaved roads and tracks cross the countryside toward farms and smaller communities. In this part of Maranhão, the landscape is often dotted with babaçu palms, and small-scale farming and extraction shape how the land is divided and used.
A Matões map poster captures a very typical form of Brazilian interior town. It shows an orderly grid, often arranged around a church square, and a web of dirt roads leading out into open country. In monochrome, the contrast between the compact centre and the wide surroundings makes a clear and honest image.

Rural tracks
Unpaved roads leave the town in several directions to reach farms and outlying communities. They draw thin, irregular lines across the surrounding land.
Open cerrado
The countryside around Matões is sparsely built. This leaves wide pale areas that let the small town grid stand out clearly in the composition.
