Maymana Map Poster & Print
Maymana is the capital of Faryab Province in northwestern Afghanistan, not far from the border with Turkmenistan. The city sits in the valley of the Maymana River, where it flows north out of the foothills of the Band-e Turkestan range, and on the map the streets and fields gather along the valley floor, with drier, hilly ground on either side.
The city has a long history as a regional centre and was once the seat of a small Uzbek khanate that held power in the area until the late nineteenth century. Its street plan combines a dense older centre with wider roads laid out later, and main routes lead out toward the other towns of the northwest.
Much of the population is Uzbek, alongside Tajik, Turkmen and Pashtun communities, and the region is known for its carpets. A Maymana map poster keeps the focus on the valley, the river and the pattern of streets, offering a calm, respectful portrait of a city many people remember from afar.
