Mifune Map Poster & Print
Mifune lies southeast of Kumamoto city, where the plain around the city starts to rise into hills. The map shows a compact town centre along a river, rice fields spreading across the flat land around it and wooded hills closing in from the east. The roads follow the valleys, and small villages dot the edges of the farmland.
The town is known across Japan for dinosaur fossils. Rock layers in the area have produced numerous fossil finds, and the Mifune Dinosaur Museum displays many of them. The subject has become part of the town's identity, and it shows up in local signs and public art.
A Mifune map poster combines three textures: the tight streets of the centre, the regular rectangles of rice paddies and the irregular lines of hill roads. Together they make a varied but calm composition, and the Paper style gives it a soft, printed look well suited to a Japanese country town.
