Shitalakshya riverfront
The Shitalakshya River runs the length of the city, a wide band of open space in the composition, lined on its banks by landing ghats, jetties and closely packed streets.

关于地图
Narayanganj Map Poster & Print
Narayanganj grew as a river port, and the Shitalakshya River is still the line that defines it. The city stretches along the western bank, just southeast of Dhaka, where boats, landing ghats and warehouses once handled much of the region's jute. On a map the river is the widest, calmest shape on the sheet, with the streets of the town crowding right up to its edge.
For much of the twentieth century Narayanganj was known as a jute centre, sometimes called the Dundee of the East, and the Adamjee jute mills here were among the largest in the world before they closed in 2002. Today the city is better known for knitwear and garment factories. Their long industrial plots show up on the map as broad blocks set among much finer residential lanes.
A Narayanganj map poster shows how tightly the city is woven. Narrow lanes branch off a few main roads, railway lines run toward Dhaka, and the built-up area thins out quickly into fields and waterways once you leave the riverbank. The Shitalakshya flows through it all, with the Dhaleshwari and Meghna not far beyond, a reminder that this has always been a city shaped by water.

Industrial riverbanks
Large mill and factory sites from the jute era and today's knitwear industry appear as broad, simple blocks, standing out clearly against the fine grain of the surrounding lanes.
Dense old lanes
Away from the main roads, the city breaks into a tight web of small streets and alleys, a pattern so dense it reads almost like texture on the finished print.
