Nilakottai is a town in Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu, on the plains east of the hill ranges that rise toward Kodaikanal. Farmland dominates the surroundings, and the town itself is a working centre where roads from nearby villages meet. From above it looks compact, with dense blocks in the middle and a looser fringe that fades into fields.
The street pattern is not a planned grid. Main roads cross near the centre, and a mesh of narrow lanes fills the space between them. Water tanks and irrigation channels, common across this part of Tamil Nadu, often appear as open shapes on the edge of the built area. They break up the texture of the map.
The town is associated with the regional flower trade, and its market handles produce from the surrounding countryside. A Nilakottai map poster does not show any of that activity.
