Oerlinghausen sits on the southwestern flank of the Teutoburg Forest, a short distance from Bielefeld. On a map, the long wooded ridge is the defining feature. The town climbs the lower slope, and its streets run along the contours and bend around the hillside instead of forming a regular grid.
Below the ridge, the land flattens, and here lies one of the town's best-known features: a large gliding airfield, among the busiest in Germany. Its broad, open outline is easy to pick out among the surrounding streets and fields. It shows up as a clear pale patch in the poster's composition.
The town is also home to an open-air archaeological museum that reconstructs dwellings from different prehistoric periods.
