Pattiyūrgrāmam lies in the low coastal belt of central Kerala, where the land is flat and water is never far away. From above, settlement does not form a grid. It follows lanes and embankments, with houses spread out along narrow roads rather than packed into a single centre. The resulting street pattern is loose and branching, like the veins of a leaf.
This part of Kerala is shaped by canals, streams and paddy land that floods and drains with the seasons. On the map, the waterways and the edges of cultivated fields cut through the settlement. They leave irregular pockets of streets between them. Larger roads connecting to nearby towns run through the area as longer, straighter lines, and smaller paths branch off them toward individual homesteads.
