Pedra Map Poster & Print
Pedra is a municipality in the interior of Pernambuco, in the semi-arid country that lies between the coast and the sertão. Its name means stone in Portuguese. On a map the town shows as a small, dense knot of streets surrounded by wide open land, where the few lines are unpaved roads leading out to farms and smaller settlements.
The centre has the look of many towns in north-eastern Brazil. Short blocks cluster around a main square and church, and a few longer streets stretch outward along the regional roads. Seasonal watercourses and small reservoirs appear here and there on the surrounding land, reflecting how carefully water is managed in this climate.
A Pedra map poster is mostly about contrast. There is a dark, concentrated core, and then a great deal of pale space broken only by thin roads. It is a minimal composition that suits the place. It shows a town that has grown where roads and water allowed, in a landscape that stays largely open.
