Dnieper waterfront
The river curves along the eastern side of town, broad and slow, with the embankment marking the line where the street grid ends and open water begins.

关于地图
Rechytsa Map Poster & Print
Rechytsa stands on the right bank of the Dnieper in the Gomel region of south-eastern Belarus. From above, the river is everything: a wide, slow line sweeping past the town, with meanders, oxbow lakes and floodplain meadows spreading across the far bank, while the town's streets extend westward from the waterfront in a largely regular pattern.
It is one of the oldest towns in Belarus, first mentioned in chronicles in 1213. In the twentieth century it became the centre of the country's oil industry, after deposits were found in the surrounding district in the 1960s. The result is a town with a long past and a practical, modern layout, where older central streets meet later housing districts.
A Rechytsa map poster brings out the contrast between the ordered grid of the town and the free, looping forms of the Dnieper floodplain. Rail lines and the edges of woodland complete the picture, making it a calm, balanced composition in any of the five styles, and one that holds up well at larger sizes.

Floodplain meadows
Across the river, oxbows, side channels and low meadows create a delicate, irregular pattern that contrasts with the town's straight streets.
Central grid
The streets of the centre run in a mostly regular pattern back from the river, the core around which later residential districts have steadily grown.
