Sang-e Chārak lies in Sar-e Pol province in northern Afghanistan, in hilly country that rises toward the mountains of the interior. On the map, the settlement is a cluster of lanes and walled compounds gathered along a valley, where water and flatter land make farming and building possible.
Around the town, the terrain is open and largely treeless, and the valley floor stands out as a strip of fields and orchards. A few roads and tracks lead out of the valley, connecting Sang-e Chārak to other districts and to the provincial centre, following the easiest routes through the hills.
