Segezha Map Poster & Print
Segezha is in central Karelia, where the Segezha River runs towards Lake Vygozero and the White Sea–Baltic Canal passes on its way north. The town grew up around its large pulp and paper mill, which remains its best-known industry and gave its name to a major Russian timber company. The Murmansk railway also runs through the town, linking it with the far north and with Saint Petersburg.
On the map, water and forest take up most of the frame. The river and canal run through as long pale bands. Beyond the town, the land breaks into countless lakes and inlets, typical of the Karelian landscape. The residential streets form a compact grid, with the mill complex at the waterside marked by larger, blockier industrial shapes.
