Baikal shoreline
The southern end of the lake forms a broad, open curve. At poster scale its smooth outline dominates the composition in a way few inland places can match.

关于地图
Slyudyanka Map Poster & Print
Slyudyanka sits at the southwestern tip of Lake Baikal in Irkutsk Oblast, where the shore turns and the Khamar-Daban range rises steeply behind it. The flat land between water and mountains is narrow. As a result, the town stretches along the coast in a long band, with streets running parallel to the lake and short cross streets climbing inland.
The name comes from the Russian word for mica, which was once mined here. The town is a stop on the Trans-Siberian Railway, and its marble station building is one of the best known on the line. The Circum-Baikal Railway, a historic branch that follows the shore toward Port Baikal, begins nearby.
A Slyudyanka map poster is defined by the water's edge. Lake Baikal fills a large part of the frame as an open surface, the railway traces the shoreline in a clean curve, and the town fits into the narrow strip between them. The result is a composition of contrasts: vast calm water and a tight band of streets.

Trans-Siberian line
The railway follows the shore through town. Its long curving track forms a clear line between lake and streets and recalls the town's role as a rail stop.
Mountain backdrop
The slopes of the Khamar-Daban rise immediately behind the town. They limit its growth inland and leave the southern part of the frame nearly empty.

为什么选Slyudyanka
一张有意义的地图
Many travellers pass through Slyudyanka on their way along Baikal, and some stay for the mountains or the Circum-Baikal line. A map of this shoreline town is a strong memento of that journey and a striking image in its own right.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with the dates of your trip or the name of the lake. Blueprint and Noir suit the water especially well, and all five styles are available as $9 HD files or as printed posters.
