Stavroúpoli Map Poster & Print
Stavroúpoli lies on the western side of Thessaloniki, where the city rises from the flat land near the port toward the hills. On a map it is a tight, almost continuous mesh of streets. Short blocks are filled edge to edge with apartment buildings. The pattern is regular in places and bends where the ground climbs.
Much of the district was settled in the twentieth century, when refugees from Asia Minor and Thrace arrived after 1922. It later grew into a crowded residential area. Since 2011 it has been part of the Pavlos Melas municipality, but the old name is still in everyday use.
A Stavroúpoli map poster shows how closely a Greek suburb can be built. Streets run so near each other that the print becomes a fine web of line. Main avenues toward central Thessaloniki give the web a direction, and green higher ground at the edges lets it breathe.
