Szentendre Map Poster & Print
Szentendre lies on the right bank of the Danube, just north of Budapest, facing the long Szentendre Island across a side arm of the river. From above, the old town is a knot of narrow, irregular lanes climbing from the riverside promenade to a small hill, with newer streets spreading more regularly to the north and west.
The town was settled by Serbian and other Balkan communities in the late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and several Orthodox churches still mark its skyline. In the twentieth century it became known as an artists' town, and it is home to the large Hungarian Open Air Museum, the Skanzen, on its western edge.
A Szentendre map poster shows the contrast that makes the town memorable: the soft curve of the Danube branch, the tangled medieval street plan, and the wooded Pilis hills rising to the west. The suburban railway line arriving from Budapest adds one clean, straight thread through the composition.
