Toward Mount Iwate
To the west, the streets thin out and give way to forest and farmland on the slopes of Mount Iwate. On the map, the city seems to fade into the mountain's base.

关于地图
Takizawa Map Poster & Print
Takizawa spreads across gentle land northwest of Morioka, with Mount Iwate rising beyond its western edge. For many years it was known as the most populous village in Japan, and it became a city in 2014. The map shows that history. Instead of one centre, housing, fields and institutions are spread across a wide area.
Neighbourhoods follow railway lines and main roads out from Morioka. Between them are fields, woods and large campuses, including Iwate Prefectural University. Takizawa is also known as the starting point of the Chagu Chagu Umakko, a festival in which decorated horses walk from a shrine in the city toward Morioka each June.
A Takizawa map poster has a lot of open space. Built-up areas appear as separate islands connected by roads, and the pale ground between them is farmland and forest on the lower slopes of the volcano. The effect is calm and spacious, which suits a place that has kept much of its rural character.

University grounds
Iwate Prefectural University occupies a large, clearly defined campus. Its buildings and paths form a distinct pattern among the residential areas and fields.
Scattered districts
Housing is grouped into several separate areas along rail and road routes. This spread-out pattern reflects the city's long history as a very large village.
