Blue Nile Falls
Just outside the settlement the river drops over a wide basalt edge into a gorge, one of the best-known natural sights in Ethiopia and the reason most visitors come here.

关于地图
T’īs Isat Map Poster & Print
T’īs Isat lies on the Ethiopian highlands of Amhara, just downstream of the point where the Blue Nile leaves Lake Tana near Bahir Dar. The name means smoke of fire, a reference to the spray that rises from the Blue Nile Falls nearby. On a map the river is the defining line: a wide channel that splits, narrows and plunges into a gorge cut through dark volcanic rock.
The settlement itself is modest in plan, with a loose network of roads and footpaths linking homesteads, fields and the approach to the falls. Most of what you see from above is the river and its edges, including braided channels upstream and the sharp turn into the gorge. Since hydropower works were built upstream, the flow over the falls varies with the season and with water use.
A T’īs Isat map poster works best as a portrait of water and terrain rather than of streets. The Blue Nile runs through the frame as the main element, with the thinner lines of village roads and paths around it. It is a spare, graphic composition that suits a place better known for its landscape than for its buildings.

Braided river channels
Above the falls the Blue Nile spreads into several channels separated by islands and rock, giving the map a split, feathered river line instead of a single stream.
Old stone bridge
A historic stone bridge crosses the river gorge near the falls. On foot it links the two banks, and on a map it appears as a short, precise stroke across the water.

为什么选T’īs Isat
一张有意义的地图
This map suits travellers who have walked to the falls, and Ethiopians from the Lake Tana region who want a piece of home that is not a photograph. The river line is striking enough to carry a wall on its own.
Personalise the title, the subtitle and the coordinates line, perhaps with the date of a visit, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the HD files for $9, or order a printed poster from a partner near you.
