Triolet Map Poster & Print
Triolet lies in the Pamplemousses district of northern Mauritius, between Port Louis and the resorts of the north coast. From above, it is one of the island's clearest ribbon villages. Homes, shops and temples line a single main road for several kilometres, and short side lanes run off into the surrounding sugarcane.
It is often described as the largest village in Mauritius. It is also home to the Maheswarnath Mandir, founded in the nineteenth century and regarded as the largest Hindu temple on the island. The temple is an important pilgrimage centre, and the village's history is closely tied to the Indian indentured labourers who worked the sugar estates.
A Triolet map poster has an unusual elongated composition. A strong central line is lined with dense building footprints, and open fields lie on either side. Toward the edges of a wider view, the north coast and its bays begin to appear. It is a distinctive map for anyone whose family roots are in this part of the island.

This temple complex is the largest Hindu temple in Mauritius. It is a major religious landmark, with its grounds forming a notable open space along the village.
Sugarcane fields
Cane fields surround the village on both sides. They appear as broad empty areas, crossed by farm tracks, which make the ribbon of houses stand out.
