Trubchevsk Map Poster & Print
Trubchevsk stands on the Desna in Bryansk Oblast, and its map is shaped by the river's steep bank and the flat floodplain below it. The town sits on the higher ground above the river, while across from it stretches a broad plain of meadows, oxbow lakes and side channels where the Desna has shifted its course over time.
It is one of the old towns of the region. The chronicles and The Tale of Igor's Campaign mention it as the seat of Prince Vsevolod, who fought alongside his brother Igor in 1185. Traces of the early fortified settlement survive near the riverbank, and the old centre still sits on that high point overlooking the water.
Inland from the river, streets form a loose grid of mostly low-rise houses with gardens, gradually thinning out into fields and forest.
