Great Liakhvi River
The river runs through the city and divides it into two sides, giving the poster a clear central line that runs from top to bottom.

关于地图
Ts’khinvali Map Poster & Print
Ts’khinvali lies on the Great Liakhvi River in the South Caucasus, north of the Georgian lowland of Shida Kartli and below the ridges of the Greater Caucasus. On a map the river runs through the city from north to south, and the streets spread out along both banks on the valley floor, with hills rising at the edges.
The city is the administrative centre of South Ossetia, a territory whose status is disputed. It has been deeply affected by conflict, including the war of 2008. This page describes the city simply as it appears on a map.
A Ts’khinvali map poster shows a compact grid of streets along the river, with the water as a thin, clear line through the middle. Roads follow the valley north toward the mountains and south onto the plain. The result is a restrained, graphic view of a small city defined by its river and valley.

Valley setting
The city fills the flat valley floor, with the built-up area narrowing where the hills close in, so the settlement takes on a long outline.
Road along the valley
The main roads follow the river corridor, linking the city with villages up the valley and with the lowland to the south.
