Ubajara Map Poster & Print
Ubajara lies on the Serra da Ibiapaba, the long plateau that runs along the western edge of Ceará near the border with Piauí. The town occupies high, relatively cool ground, and just beyond it the escarpment falls steeply toward the dry sertão. On a map the streets form a compact grid, with roads running along the plateau to neighbouring towns in the range.
The town is best known for Ubajara National Park, one of Brazil's smallest national parks, created to protect the forested slopes of the escarpment and the limestone Ubajara Cave. A cable car has long carried visitors down the cliffs to the cave entrance. Coffee and other crops grow on the plateau, helped by its milder, wetter climate.
