Converging tracks
Unpaved routes arrive from the surrounding country and meet near the market, drawing a web of lines that shows how the town connects to herders and villages far beyond.

关于地图
Umm Hājar Map Poster & Print
Umm Hājar, often written Oum Hadjer, is a town in Chad's Batha region, east of the regional capital Ati. It lies in the Sahel, where the land is flat and dry for much of the year and the shape of a settlement is set by tracks, compounds and the course of seasonal water. From above the town appears as a loose field of walled yards and unpaved streets rather than a dense grid.
Like many towns in the region, it serves herders and farmers from the surrounding countryside, and its market is a meeting point for trade in livestock and grain. The Batha, a seasonal river that flows westward towards Lake Fitri, passes close by, and after the rains its bed and banks become a visible line across an otherwise pale landscape.
An Umm Hājar map poster renders this in a sparse, graphic way. Tracks converge on the centre from several directions, compounds form small rectangles and irregular clusters, and the course of the riverbed cuts through the surroundings as a soft band. The generous white space is part of the picture, reflecting a place shaped by distance and open ground.

Seasonal river
The Batha riverbed runs close to town, dry for much of the year. On the map its course forms a gentle band through the flat Sahel plain.
Compound pattern
Walled family yards give the town its texture, a pattern of small enclosed shapes separated by sandy lanes rather than the continuous blocks of a larger city.
