Vādāsinor Map Poster & Print
Vādāsinor, also known as Balasinor, lies in central Gujarat on the low, rolling land between the Mahi River basin and the plains to the west. From above, the town has a dense core of narrow lanes and irregular blocks, typical of an old market town. Newer, more open neighbourhoods spread out along the roads leading away from the centre.
The town was once the seat of a small princely state. The historic centre, with its winding streets and closely spaced buildings, is still clearly visible on the map. Around it the countryside is a patchwork of fields, small villages and seasonal watercourses, so the town appears as a tight cluster against much lighter lines.
The area is widely known for its dinosaur fossils. At Raiyoli, near the town, large numbers of dinosaur eggs and bones from the late Cretaceous period have been found, and a fossil park now protects the site.
