Yovon Map Poster & Print
Yovon is a town in Khatlon Province in southwestern Tajikistan, south of Dushanbe. It sits in a broad valley between ranges of dry foothills, and from above the contrast is striking. A green patchwork of irrigated fields and orchards surrounds the town, and brown, eroded slopes rise sharply where the cultivated land ends.
Farming in the valley depends on irrigation canals, a system greatly expanded in the Soviet period. Cotton and other crops grow across the plain. The town itself has a largely Soviet-era layout, with straight streets, broad blocks and low-rise housing organised around a main road that runs along the valley.
A Yovon map poster shows the order that water has imposed on the land. Canals appear as fine straight or gently curving lines, fields form a dense grid, and the town sits in the middle of that pattern. Where irrigation stops, the map opens into empty space, a reminder of the dry country all around.
