Acatzingo lies east of the city of Puebla, in the high valley along the route toward Orizaba and the Gulf coast. Like many towns founded in the colonial period, it follows a clear grid. Straight streets meet at right angles, and the blocks are arranged around a central square with the main church.
The grid is regular enough to feel almost diagrammatic on a map, which makes it look especially good in minimalist styles. At its edges the pattern loosens into looser blocks and field roads, and past them the valley opens into farmland typical of central Puebla.
