Tundra lakes
Numerous small lakes scatter across the flat interior, creating a speckled texture that gives the poster its main visual detail and an almost abstract surface.

Ayon Island Map Poster & Print
Ayon lies in the East Siberian Sea off the coast of Chukotka, in Russia's far northeast, near the entrance to Chaun Bay. It is separated from the mainland by narrow, shallow channels, and from above it looks less like a solid block of land than a patchwork of tundra, small lakes and meandering streams, with a coastline softened by spits and lagoons.
The island has long served as pasture for Chukchi reindeer herders, and a small village of the same name sits on its shore. Sea ice surrounds it for much of the year, and permafrost shapes the ground beneath the tundra. Beyond that, little about it is widely known, which is part of what makes it compelling as a subject.
An Ayon Island map poster has very few lines of human making. Instead, the drawing comes from water: lakes pocking the interior, channels along the southern side and the broad sweep of sea. It is a rare subject, suited to people who have worked in Chukotka or who simply want a piece of the Arctic that almost no one else has on their wall.

Mainland channels
Narrow, shallow straits separate the island from the Chukotka coast, so the southern edge of the map becomes a quiet tangle of water and low land.
Soft Arctic coast
Spits, lagoons and gently curving beaches take the place of cliffs, giving the outline a rounded, understated edge that suits the Paper and Noir styles.

This is a map for people who have spent time in Chukotka, for geographers and polar enthusiasts, and for anyone who likes the idea of hanging a place almost nobody has seen. The watery, speckled surface makes a calm and unusual image.
