Chelambra lies in Malappuram district, in northern Kerala, not far inland from the Kozhikode coast. Like much of this region, it has no hard edge. From above, houses are scattered among coconut and areca gardens, and narrow lanes wind over low hills and down into paddy-filled hollows. Town and countryside run into each other with no clear line.
