Emet sits in the hills of Kütahya province in western Turkey, along the valley of the Emet stream. The town's shape follows the lie of the land: a compact centre in the lower ground, with streets climbing gently up the surrounding slopes and thinning out into fields. Seen from above it reads as an elongated cluster rather than a grid, pulled along the line of the valley.
The district is best known for its boron deposits, among the most significant in Turkey, and mining areas appear on a wider map as large open clearings in the hills beyond the town. Emet is also known for its thermal springs, part of a broader tradition of hot-water bathing in the Kütahya region. Both give the surrounding landscape a character quite different from ordinary farming country.
