Ibiá lies in the interior of Minas Gerais, in the high, rolling country of the state's west. Seen from above, the town is a concentrated grid of streets surrounded by open land. The pattern is orderly at the centre and becomes more irregular toward the edges, where streets bend to follow the terrain and meet the roads that lead out to farms and neighbouring towns.
This is agricultural country, and the map reflects it. Once past the last blocks, the lines thin out into long rural roads crossing a landscape of pasture and fields, interrupted here and there by watercourses and bands of vegetation along their banks. The contrast between the dense town and the spare countryside gives the composition a clear focal point.
