Kaarta
Izkī lies in the Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate of Oman, on the inland side of the Hajar Mountains, and is often described as one of the oldest towns in the country. From above, it combines the dense layout of its traditional quarters with the green patchwork of date palm gardens. Around them is the bare, folded ground of the hills.
The town has long depended on falaj irrigation, a system of channels that carries water from underground sources to fields and homes. The Falaj Al-Malki at Izkī is one of the aflaj on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The two historic quarters, Harat al-Nizar and Harat al-Yemen, reflect old tribal divisions and keep a compact, inward-looking layout.
An Izkī map poster translates the oasis into line: narrow, irregular lanes in the old quarters, newer straight roads beyond them and the soft edges of cultivated land. It is a quiet image of how water and settlement have shaped each other over many centuries in the interior of Oman.
The old harat appear as tight clusters of short, winding lanes. Their fine-grained texture stands out clearly from the broader streets of the newer districts.
Irrigated date palm groves appear as open, soft-edged areas between the built-up zones. They mark where falaj water reaches the land.
Beyond the oasis, roads thread through wadis and around rocky ground, hinting at the Hajar range that rises above the town.
