Jászberény is the traditional centre of the Jászság, a region on the northern edge of the Great Hungarian Plain. From above, the town spreads across flat ground with a long central axis, around which older streets form an irregular, organic pattern. Further out, residential areas become more regular, and farmland begins right where the houses end.
The Zagyva river runs through the town, adding a curving line that softens the street network. Jászberény is known for Lehel's horn, a carved ivory horn linked in legend to the Hungarian conquest era and kept in the local Jász Museum. The town is also known for its large refrigerator factory, which accounts for a big share of its industrial land.
