Jinshan is the district where Shanghai meets Hangzhou Bay. Its map looks nothing like the dense towers of the city centre. A long, nearly straight shoreline runs along the south. Inland the ground is flat and low, crossed by a fine web of canals, creeks and irrigation channels that divide the fields into irregular patches.
