Jiuhe is a township in Yulong County in northwest Yunnan, south of Lijiang, in a region where Bai and Naxi communities live side by side. On the map, the settlement sits on a valley floor between mountain slopes. Villages cluster along the road, and fields fill the flat land between them.
The terrain gives the drawing its shape. Streams come down from the surrounding hills and run through the valley, while roads follow the level ground before winding up toward passes. Terraced and irrigated plots form a fine mosaic around the villages.
