Junín lies in the northwest of Buenos Aires province, on the flat grasslands of the pampas. Like many Argentine towns founded in the nineteenth century, it follows a regular grid of square blocks around a central plaza, and the rail lines that helped it grow run through and around the centre.
Water gives the map its character. The Río Salado passes nearby, and to the northwest lie the Laguna de Gómez and Laguna El Carpincho, large shallow lagoons that appear as broad blank shapes beside the dense grid.
