Khāchrod lies in Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh, on the Malwa plateau between Nagda and Ratlam. The land is gently undulating, with fertile black soils that support wheat, soybean and other crops. On the map the town appears as a dense core of narrow lanes, with newer growth spreading outward along the roads and the railway that pass through it.
The town is on the main railway line between Delhi and Mumbai, and the tracks form a strong straight line across the map, separating parts of the town and linking it to the larger junctions nearby.
