Khemis el Khechna lies in Boumerdès province, on the eastern side of the Mitidja, the fertile plain that curves around the back of Algiers. Its setting is clear on a map. Flat, agricultural ground spreads to the west and north, while higher land begins to rise towards the east and south. The town sits along the transition between the two.
