Kaarta
Khulna grew along the western bank of the Bhairab and Rupsha rivers, and its map follows their course. The city is elongated north to south, with main roads, rail lines and dense neighbourhoods running parallel to the water. Across the river the land is flatter and more rural, and the contrast between the built-up west and the open east is immediately visible.
One of the largest cities in Bangladesh, Khulna has long been an industrial and trading centre, historically linked with jute, shrimp and shipping. It is also the main gateway to the Sundarbans, the vast mangrove forest to the south, and to the seaport of Mongla. The Rupsha Bridge carries the main road across the river toward the coast.
A Khulna map poster captures a city defined by its riverbanks. The long curve of water, the narrow band of streets alongside it and the web of smaller channels in the surrounding delta combine into a design that feels both orderly and organic, much like the city itself.
The main river along the eastern edge of the city, wide and slow. Its sweeping course forms the most prominent line on the poster.
Roads, rail and neighbourhoods run parallel to the river, giving Khulna an elongated north–south shape that is easy to read at a glance.
Smaller rivers and creeks branch through the surrounding land, hinting at the mangrove country of the Sundarbans that lies to the south.
