Komtikas is in Ethiopia's South West Ethiopia Peoples' Region, in the green highlands in the south-west of the country. This is one of Ethiopia's wettest regions. It is known for forests, coffee and farming, and the land is hilly and heavily cultivated. From above, the town is a small cluster of streets set in that landscape.
Roads here follow ridges and valleys rather than straight lines, and settlements often spread along them. Around the town, small farms, garden plots and patches of woodland make a close, irregular pattern. Streams run down the valleys between the hills, adding curving lines to the map.
