Longaví lies in Chile's Central Valley, in the Maule region, where the Pan-American Highway runs north–south through farmland between the coastal range and the Andes. The map shows a small, regular town grid beside the highway, set among orchards, vineyards and fields divided into long rectangles by irrigation channels.
The commune takes its name from the Longaví River, which flows down from the Andes, and from the Nevado de Longaví, a snow-capped volcano rising to the east. Water from those mountains feeds the canals that shape the farmland pattern visible all around the town.
