Maḩallāt lies in Markazi Province, at the foot of the mountains that rise between the central plateau and the Zagros. From above the town is long rather than round. Its streets follow the line of the valley, and the built-up area gives way quickly to terraced gardens and then to bare, folded hillsides. The town is known across Iran for two things: its hot mineral springs just outside the centre, and its flower and ornamental plant growers.
