Mamfe is the main town of the Manyu division in Cameroon's South-West Region, near the border with Nigeria. It stands on the Manyu River, known further downstream in Nigeria as the Cross River, and it has long been a crossing point between the two countries.
From above, the river is the defining feature: a broad, curving channel along the edge of town. The streets gather on the higher ground nearby in an irregular pattern, with main roads leading towards the border and inland towards the rest of the region. Around the town, the forest leaves large areas of open space on the map.
