Kaarta
Melilla is an autonomous Spanish city on the northern coast of Africa, on the eastern side of the Cape Tres Forcas peninsula, and it borders Morocco on land. On a map it is compact and clearly contained. The Mediterranean lies on one side and a curved land border on the other, and a dense city fills the space between them.
The oldest part, Melilla la Vieja, sits on a rocky promontory by the sea: a fortified citadel of walls, bastions and narrow streets. Below it the modern city spreads out in a more regular pattern, with wide avenues and a large port. The early twentieth-century centre is known for its modernist buildings, many of them designed by the architect Enrique Nieto.
Spain took Melilla in 1497, and the city has been Spanish ever since. Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Hindu communities live side by side in a very small area. A Melilla map poster shows the fortress on its headland, the grid of the modern centre and the clean curve of the coast.

Below the fortress, the modern city is laid out in regular blocks and wide streets. It holds one of the largest collections of modernist architecture in Spain.
The land boundary with Morocco wraps around the city in a rough arc, giving Melilla a compact, almost self-contained shape on the map.

Macah Melilla
Melilla has a strong pull for people who were born there, served there or have family in its many communities. A map of the city captures its unusual geography, a small piece of Spain on the African coast, in one clear frame.
Add a title in Spanish or English, a subtitle such as a date, and the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint brings out the fortress outline and the harbour especially well.
