Njeru sits on the western bank of the Victoria Nile, directly opposite Jinja, just downstream from where the river leaves Lake Victoria. On a map the river divides the two towns clearly, with bridges and dams stitching them together. Njeru's own streets spread westward from the riverbank along the main road toward Kampala, surrounded by farmland and plantations.
The river here is harnessed for power. The Nalubaale and Kiira hydroelectric stations stand at the former Owen Falls site, and the New Jinja Bridge, a cable-stayed crossing opened in 2018, carries traffic across the Nile. These structures make the stretch of water between Njeru and Jinja one of the most important crossings in the country.
