Oria lies in Gipuzkoa, just inland from San Sebastián, in the municipality usually written as Lasarte-Oria. It takes its name from the Oria river, which bends across the valley floor here on its way to the sea. On a map, the built-up area stays close to the river and the transport routes, filling the narrow strip of flat ground before the slopes rise.
Instead of a single square grid, the terrain shapes the street pattern. Blocks step up the hillsides, roads curve along the contours, and housing clusters fit into whatever space is available. Road and rail links toward San Sebastián run through the valley and draw long parallel lines across the map. Around the edges, fields and woods fill the green Basque landscape.
