Osan is a small city in southern Gyeonggi province, south of Seoul. Its map is compact and well defined. The Osan stream runs through the middle of the city, and the Gyeongbu railway line and main roads follow a north–south corridor. On either side, apartment complexes form regular rows of blocks, typical of Korean cities that grew rapidly in recent decades.
The older centre around the station has smaller streets and a denser layout, while newer districts have wider roads and larger blocks. To the northeast, the wooded hill of Doksanseong, a historic mountain fortress, rises above the city. Its walls follow the ridge, forming a ring on the map.
