Kaarta
Palembang grew on both banks of the Musi River, one of the largest rivers in Sumatra, and the river is the defining line of its map. The broad, slightly curving channel separates the northern side, Seberang Ilir, from the southern side, Seberang Ulu, with tributaries and smaller streams branching off into the neighbourhoods on each bank.
The Ampera Bridge, completed in 1965, crosses the Musi near the centre and became the symbol of the city; newer bridges now cross at other points along the river. Houses on stilts and floating dwellings still line some stretches of the banks. Downstream, the small island of Kemaro sits in the river, known for its Chinese temple and pagoda.
Palembang is widely identified as a centre of the Srivijaya kingdom, which dominated trade in the region more than a thousand years ago. Today it is also known for pempek, its fish cakes. A Palembang map poster shows how the city arranges itself around the river, with dense streets on both banks and the waterway flowing through the middle.
The wide river runs through the centre in a gentle curve, a broad pale band that splits the city in two and anchors the entire composition.
The city's best-known crossing spans the Musi near the historic centre and market area, a single straight line connecting the two banks.
Downstream from the centre, this small river island forms a distinct shape in the channel, associated with a Chinese temple and a local legend.

Macah Palembang
For people from Palembang, the river is central to how the city is remembered, and a map of the Musi and its banks captures that clearly. It suits a family home, an office, or someone working far away in Jakarta or abroad.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates with a name, a date or a short phrase, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Six print sizes come as HD files for $9, with no watermark.
