Phomolong is a township in the Free State province of South Africa, on the open grassland of the Highveld. Like many South African townships, it was laid out in a planned way. Its map shows rows of streets and closely spaced plots in a regular pattern, with a few main roads carrying traffic through the neighbourhood.
The surrounding land is flat and wide, a mix of farmland and open veld. Roads connect Phomolong with the neighbouring town and with the Free State goldfields region further afield. Schools, churches, sports fields and small open spaces break up the housing blocks.
