Kaarta
Polotsk stands on the Western Dvina in the Vitebsk Region of northern Belarus and is usually described as the oldest city in the country. Chronicles first mention it in 862. On a map the broad river cuts through the town in a steady curve, and the small Polota river joins it near the historic centre, where the town began.
St Sophia Cathedral rises above the Dvina on the site of the old castle hill. The city is also tied to Euphrosyne of Polotsk, whose convent lies on its western side, and to Francysk Skaryna, the sixteenth-century printer born here. A monument in the centre marks one of the places claimed as the geographical centre of Europe.
A Polotsk map poster shows a city laid out by its rivers. The old core sits at the confluence, the streets on each bank follow the Dvina, and bridges stitch the two sides together. In black and white the water becomes the strongest shape, and the town's long history shows in how everything gathers around that one meeting point.
The wide river crosses the whole map in a steady arc. It divides the city into two banks, joined by a few bridges.
The small Polota river meets the Dvina near the historic centre, the point where the medieval town began and where its oldest streets still gather.
St Sophia Cathedral stands on raised ground above the Dvina. The streets bend around it, and it marks the original castle site at the heart of the old town.

Macah Polotsk
Polotsk speaks to anyone with roots in Belarus or an interest in the long history of the eastern Baltic lands. The river gives the print a calm, strong line, and it suits a study, a library corner or a family room.
Personalise the title, add a subtitle such as a founding year or a family name, and keep the coordinates line. There are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
